WHEN this economy was enjoying its absolute boom period and Government coffers were awash with money some argued it made sense to invest heavily to bring our inadequate infrastructure up to par with the rest of the developed world.

As we all know the road and rail question has never been adequately dealt with and the end result is a transport system that is atrociously inadequate.

Arguments were made we couldn't borrow anymore because it would upset our debt/GDP ratio and put us in bad grace with the EU.
