A SLOWDOWN in the rate of pay increases and inflation is required to keep the Irish economy robust and to maintain jobs, Forfás chief executive Martin Cronin declared yesterday.

Forfás, the National Policy and Advisory Board for Enterprise, Trade, Science, Technology & Innovation in Ireland, oversees job creation in Ireland through the activities of the IDA.

Mr Cronin said falling world stock markets, a declining US dollar and growing international competition pose challenges to Ireland's continued economic growth.
