Dairygold welcomes quota plan

DAIRYGOLD has welcomed the proposals by Agriculture Minister Mary Coughlan for a new quota-exchange regime, to come into effect in April 2007.

Chairman John Walsh said the minister’s more market-led proposals are to be welcomed in that they should facilitate dairy farmers who wish to expand while also properly compensating those who wish to exit the sector.

“Scale will be critical for Irish farmers’ competitiveness in the increasingly more liberalised international dairy markets.
