Semi-state gas supplier Bord Gáis said it “strongly” welcomed a decision yesterday by the British House of Lords, which upheld its claim for tax breaks on a pipeline between Ireland and Britain.

The decision will save Bord Gáis €25 million. The company had faced a claim from British tax inspectors, who said it was not entitled to claim tax advantages on the pipeline.

Britain’s Inland Revenue had tried unsuccessfully to pursue its claim through the courts.
