New stores boost Argos sales 13%

Catalogue retailing group GUS said yesterday its Argos chain had outperformed its market in the first half of the year as it reported a strong showing across its businesses despite some difficult markets.

GUS said Argos lifted sales by 13% on the back of new store openings and a particularly good performance from consumer electronics, photography, white goods and leisure products.

New stores contributed 6% of the growth, with 14 openings in the period taking the total number of Argos outlets to 570.
