Providence starts drilling in Nigeria

EXPLORATION company Providence Resources has begun drilling an oil well in Nigeria.

The company, which is backed by media baron Tony O’Reilly, said a previous drill of the well off the Nigerian coast had tested positive for hydrocarbons and confirmed the potential for a large oil and gas field.

“We are pleased to see the commencement of drilling operations on this very attractive prospect. This is an exciting time for Providence and we very much look forward to the outcome of this drilling programme,” the company said in a statement.
