SOME €65 million is to be spent on providing future broadband internet requirements for 19 towns and cities around the country, it emerged yesterday.

Minister for Communications Dermot Ahern yesterday launched the roll-out of a new national broadband scheme, which will deliver high-speed internet access to 19 selected locations.

Over the next 12 months more than 50,000 kilometres of fibre optic internet cable enough to go around the earth and still have some left over will be installed in towns from Donegal to Cork.
