ENTERPRISE Minister Micheál Martin is targeting the huge increase in the EU’s research budget to further develop food and bio-tech industries.

The European Commission wants to double the amount of money it spends over the next seven years in research and development to €73 billion.

More than half this sum will go towards co-operative collaborative research where companies and universities in different member states carry out research together.
