ISEQ loses 86.32 points

THE Irish Index of shares fell for the first day in five, losing 86.32 points to close at 4269.40.

Irish financial shares followed their European rivals by falling on the day amid concerns about earnings in the industry. Bank of Ireland suffered heaviest in the financial sector falling 50c to €11.20. Allied Irish Bank followed suit by losing 37c to close at €12.66. Other downward movers included Irish Life & Permanent which lost 5c to €12.90, First Active which finished 2c lower to €6.27 and Anglo Irish Bank which dropped 1c to €6.28.

IFG gained 8c to 88c. The Financial Index closed down 247.90 to 8505.37. The food sector performed solidly. Greencore gained 15c to close at €2.95, Fyffes climbed 5c to €1.50 and IAWS closed 5c higher to €7.80. Kerry Group lost 15c to €14.50.
