French trade deficit narrows

France’s trade deficit narrowed by a fifth in May as economic growth outside the eurozone helped boost exports to the highest since August 2001.

Imports also rose, boosted by rising oil costs.

The trade gap fell to €263 million from a revised shortfall of €330 million in April, a customs department report found.
