IRISH computer users have so far escaped the latest virus spreading over the internet. The new virus, called “Mydoom” or “Novarg” by anti-virus companies, made its first appearance on Monday and is capable of sending out 100 infected email messages in 30 seconds

Microsoft Ireland said yesterday that its helpdesk staff were ready to handle calls in relation to the virus and urged computer users to be vigilant.

Jonny Chambers, chief security officer at Microsoft’s European headquarters in Dublin, said email attachments should be treated with caution and computer users should keep their anti-virus software up to date.
