Star performer Elan soars 70c

THE ISEQ index gained 21.57 points to finish at 5092.02 yesterday. The main performer of the day was drugmaker Elan, which soared 70c to €11.35.

In the financials, Bank of Ireland shed 12c to €10.53, while Allied Irish Bank slipped to €12.22. On a positive note, Anglo Irish Bank continued to gain, and closed 30c stronger at €13.65, with just over 2.8 million shares traded.

Budget airline Ryanair finished 5c higher at €4.75.
