McCreevy warns of services slowdown

FINANCE Minister Charlie McCreevy warned that Government spending on day-to-day services such as hospitals and schools will not increase at the same rate as spending on roads and infrastructure.

The public will have to lower their expectations especially if the current economic slump continues or gets worse, he said.

The minister, in Brussels for a meeting with fellow EU ministers, admitted that a war would have a very bad effect on Ireland’s economy in particular.
