CUTS in forestry aid contained in the EU Rural Development Regulation are to be strongly opposed by Ireland.

Forestry Minister John Browne said a robust and consistent support mechanism for forestry was required. He welcomed the genuine movement seen in the new Draft of the Regulation, circulated last week.

“However, we still have a long way to go before this regulation could be considered as a robust support mechanism in the particular Irish forestry context”, he said
