Irish market bucks European trend

THE Dublin market bucked the European positive trend yesterday ending the day down 33.15 at 4247.95. The financials were mixed, with AIB saying it expected to report low single digit growth in earnings this year.The shares finished 18c weaker at €12.30. Bank of Ireland gave up 10c to €10.65 while Anglo Irish Bank went against the trend with a 22c gain to €7.87.

Elsewhere, food stocks eased with Greencore falling 3c to €2.90, Kerry Group down 9c to €13.12 and Fyffes 2c weaker at €1.38.

Elan added 10c to €6.50 while in New York at lunchtime the shares were trading 67 cents higher at $8.01.
