IBEC wants change to local structures

EMPLOYERS group IBEC want a radical overhaul of local Government structures and the way councils are funded.

According to IBEC, the present system of funding is unfair in that it the business sector has to pay the biggest part of local Government funding.

It wants to see local charges and rates on business to be capped at the rate of inflation. A range of functions should be out-sourced and a much greater role given to the private sector in delivering services.
