SENIOR managers in Guinness who opted for a special “cash instead of cars” deal should be given a once-off lump sum as a goodwill gesture for losing out in a cost-cutting move, the Labour Court has recommended.

The company accepted that cars and cash is an “emotive issue” after a row blew up about a revamp of the staff car policy.

The cost-cutting deal reduced a payment to managers who opted not to take a company car from €12,825 a year to €11,525 a year.
