THE International Monetary Fund believes a sustainable economic recovery in the US is not a foregone conclusion.

In its annual review of the US economy, the IMF said while recent figures had been reassuring, lingering effects of the collapse of the stock market could still dampen activity.

However, Jim Power, chief economist with Friends First said the US is providing surprises in terms of economic recovery prospects.
