Dollar plunges to fresh euro low

THE dollar fell to yet another lifetime low against the euro yesterday as traders showed little festive goodwill to the currency and pushed it past the key $1.25 barrier.

The greenback’s continuing decline has seen it set record lows against the euro on 16 of the past 22 working days.

Analysts saw little hope for exporters to the US and said a slide to $1.30 or even $1.35 looked more likely. Ulster Bank economist Niall Dunne said the dollar was suffering more pressure as currency speculators joined the growing queue to sell the currency and make short-term profits.
