Pharmaceutical revenue up

IRELAND’S pharmaceutical industry is producing increasing revenues and is reducing emissions to the environment, according to a report published by IBEC’s PharmaChemical.

The pharmaceutical industry generated 44% of Ireland’s exports last year. This €37.4 billion is up from €35.7bn in 2003 and €6.4bn in 1995.

While production within the sector increased by 3% overall, emissions to the environment have continued to substantially decrease. Reported data showed reductions of 19% recorded in organic solvents emissions (VOCs), of 20% in CO2, of 29% in COD (measure of chemical pollution to waters) and of 19% in hazardous waste.
