THE music industry has stepped up the campaign for lower VAT on CDs.

VAT on all sound recordings is currently set at between 15% and 25% but reduced rates as low as 5% are allowed on sales of magazines, newspapers, books, and tickets for cinemas, theatres and concerts.

"All parties involved in the creation, production and retail of music have called for an end to this unjust discrimination against music" said a statement issued by the VAT Coalition.
