ONE-in-three employees cite personal problems as a reason for sickness absence from work, which costs Irish companies up to €500 million a year.

This is according to a survey from HSA healthcare, which said the productivity of Ireland’s companies is being hampered by employee personal problems.

The most common cause of sickness absence from work was minor ailments, such as cold and flu.
