Southern states hit by fungal attack

Soybean rust, an aggressive fungal disease discovered for the first time in the US this month, has spread to Arkansas, after appearing on crops in Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia, Florida and Mississippi.

The number of confirmed cases in the US rose to 11 since the first discovery in Louisiana on November 10, the US Department of Agriculture said.
