RISING crude oil prices are starting to hit this year’s export recovery, exporters warned last night.

Reflecting the dramatic rise in the cost of oil, fuel surcharge on export shipments to the US increased by 64% earlier this month, to €252 per six-metre container.

Air freight shipments by FedEx have been hit by surcharge of 11.5% during May.
