NORTHERN electricity company Viridian said it was considering building a second power station in north-west Dublin.

Viridian may build second power plant

Viridian is the owner of the Huntstown power station and said a second combined cycle gas turbine power station at the site was a possibility as the energy market continued to be opened to competition.

“We continue to assess the opportunity for a second station on the Huntstown site against the background of demand projections from ESB which indicate a potential need for further capacity from 2007,” the company added in a statement to the stock market. Viridian also released a trading update yesterday ahead of its annual results in May reiterating that profits will be in line with broker forecasts. According to Davy’s, the company will report sales of £854 million and pre-tax profits of £122.6 million.
