Airtricity to develop 16 windfarms across US in major expansion
The company will build wind turbines on sites in the states of New York, Texas, Pennsylvania, Idaho and Iowa and will eventually have enough capacity to generate 1,400 megawatts of power, the equivalent of four typical oil-fired power plants in Ireland.
Airtricity chief executive Eddie O’Connor said the company, which is part of toll road and general infrastructure group NTR, had grown over the last seven years to become one of the most respected renewable energy companies in the world. “We have proceeded with an aggressive expansion plan with a total pipeline of in excess of 5,000MW across the Republic of Ireland, the North, Scotland, England and the USA,” he said.
