IBEC said the Government should resist "the European disease" of excessive regulation and that every new regulation brought in added to the cost of business and eroded competitiveness.

IBEC trade policy director Ciaran Fitzgerald said the Government should show more urgency in carrying out Regulatory Impact Analysis, which would quantify the costs involved in new regulations. He said the Government committed to investigating these costs, but had not yet done so.
