EMC, IBM extend agreement

EMC, the world’s biggest maker of computer-data storage software, and IBM extended an agreement to let IBM resell some EMC programs for another three years.

IBM signed the original contract in 2002 with VMware, a company EMC bought in January. The software lets clients move data between servers and run operating systems such as Microsoft’s Windows and Linux on the same machine.

The extension shows EMC is focusing more on making products that work with competing systems, VMware vice president Michael Mullany said.
