Mixed day for financials

THE Irish Index of shares rose yesterday, gaining 16.77 points to close at 4221.85.

Irish financial shares had a mixed day. The main mover in the financial sector was Allied Irish Bank which added 13c to close at €12.60.

Other upward movers included Anglo Irish which gained 3c to €6.20 and Irish Life & Permanent which edged the day 1c higher to €12.80. Bank of Ireland and First Active remained unchanged at €10.88 and €4.70 respectively. IFG lost 5c to 80c.
