THE Labour Party yesterday called on the Revenue Commissioners to prosecute those who aid and abet tax evasion.

The party’s finance spokesperson Joan Burton said yesterday the Revenue’s inquiry into money hidden in insurance products should not be limited to those who took the policies out. She said the Revenue must investigate the companies who sold the products.

“The Revenue Commissioners are to be congratulated on pursuing tax defaulters and reaping such rich dividends and I am sure that the inquiry will bring similar returns, but the continuing level of criminal tax evasion must be a matter of great concern to compliant taxpayers,” Ms Burton said.
