Mixed day for financials as shares slip

SHARES in Dublin ended the day in slightly weaker territory yesterday, with little newsflow to boost the market. The ISEQ index softened 6.62 points to close at 5991.41.

A mixed day of trading in the financial sector left AIB down 10c to €16.22 with over three million shares traded. In contrast, Bank of Ireland rose 7c to €12.20. In the second line, Anglo-Irish dipped 10c to €19.40 while Irish life and Permanent added 4c to €13.50.

In construction, giant CRH gave up 22c to €20.00 as the dollar continued to weaken against the Euro. Elsewhere in the sector, Kingspan firmed 8c to €9.51 while Grafton Group and McInerney both fell back, down 3c and 6c respectively.
