AER LINGUS is to press ahead with summer schedule plans to increase its transatlantic flights by 40%, as other flag-carriers around the world scale back operations and lay off staff.

Aer Lingus will increase its daily service a day to the US from five to seven flights daily to seven at the end of the month, following an analysis of market research carried out in the US over the last week in the US which was , a spokesperson for the company said last night.

“Special fares to the US, like New York at 149, under 300 return, 100 cheaper than last year are being snapped up,” she said.
