IRELAND needs a better immigration system to combat labour shortages, the Small Firms Association (SFA) said yesterday.

“As a nation, we must realise migrant workers are an addition to our workforce and are not displacing Irish workers. They have a legitimate expectation of joining Irish society in all its guises,” said SFA assistant director Patricia Callan.

The SFA also said Irish society needed to recognise the importance of migrant workers and share the benefits of recent economic success with them.
