OVERALL, the Irish market had a lacklustre day of trading, as the big financials tried to stem the tide of more significant losses.

The index shed 15.38 points to close at 5326.13.

Irish pharmaceutical Elan lost 55c to finish at 18.20. Of the financials, AIB was up 10c to 12.35. Bank of Ireland finished up 6c to 10.77. Anglo was down 15c to 13.00.
