Industrial production plummets almost 6% as homegrown industry ‘struggles’

INDUSTRIAL production in the manufacturing sector tumbled nearly 6% in the three months to April, according to new figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO).

The CSO said yesterday high-technology and chemical industries were suffering more than others, with production down 8% in the year to April. This compared with a 3.2% fall in production from other, more traditional, sectors of the economy.

Davy Stockbrokers chief economist Robbie Kelleher said homegrown industry was struggling.
