IRELAND is top of the European inflation league with prices rising by more than double the EU average.

Consumer prices rose on average by 1.9% year-on-year in the European Union, but prices in Ireland jumped by a massive 4.2% for the same period on the EU harmonised scale.

Twelve month average inflation for the EU was 2.1%, while the average for the euro 12 member countries was 2.2%. In Ireland the figure was 4.4%.
