HALF a million packets of Tayto crisps are sold in Ireland every day - despite the invasion of alternative products from British and US companies.

Tayto is the fourth biggest Irish brand with annual retail sales of €59 million. A packet of Tayto crisps now costs 45c for a standard pack. The company sells 185 million packets of crisps a year.

“Walkers are the big difference in the last three years, along with Pringles. But Tayto are not lying down. We’re spending big money on advertising and competing aggressively,” a spokesman said.
