'Balancing act' for lamb suppliers

Suppliers fear returns won't match the extra costs of feeding lambs for longer.

Lamb producers continue to struggle with the consequences of the difficult year for production and a disappointing trade at the factories, showing no sign of the hoped-for autumn lift in the prices.

Prices quoted by the processors for this week are unchanged for the lambs at 600-620c/kg plus the quality bonus of 10-20c/kg as applicable at the plant and the qualifying lambs.
