ECONOMIC news is once again putting the US dollar under pressure. Increased optimism regarding the outlook for the US economy saw the euro slip back below $1.30 in January.

However, the euro’s positive underlying trend remains intact with the release of stronger than expected eurozone data for the last three months of 2006 and a hawkish ECB press conference in February providing some renewed interest in buying the euro.

A series of downside surprises in recent US data have also lent support to the euro, which is now looking to re-test the $1.32 level.
