Walsall assistant manager Dave Merrington has resigned due to personal reasons.

Merrington’s position at the club has been taken by youth team coach Mick Halsall on a temporary basis until manager Colin Lee has found a replacement.

Lee, who was informed by Merrington of his decision last night, admitted it will be hard to find a replacement but insisted he has no plans to rush into appointing a successor.

"I won’t find anyone like Dave as there is only one of him," said Lee.

"He was a huge part of the team and had a big influence on people. He will be hard to replace but I won’t be rushing into making a decision."
