Waterford United Football Club has announced the appointment of former player, Jim McGeough, to the managerial post.

Waterford United Football Club has announced the appointment of former player, Jim McGeough, to the managerial post.

McGeough, who was born in Belfast, spent six years as a playing with Sheffield Wednesday in England, before returning to the North to play with Derry FC in 1968 and he joined Waterford FC in 1969, spending six years with the club.

He will replace Paul Power, who resigned in December after a string of disappointing results.

McGeough spent several years coaching and managing teams in the US and was a selector for the US Olympic Development teams. He praised the work of some of the senior members of the team for keeping the side ticking over while the club was looking for a new manager.
