Kenny acknowledges people's 'rage' and 'anger' after leaked Anglo tapes

The Taoiseach said that he can understand the anger and the rage provoked in people by the leaked secret Anglo tapes.

Two former executives at the now zombie bank have denied they tried to mislead the Central Bank about the extent of the crisis at the institution.

Taped phone calls between John Bowe and Peter Fitzgerald - obtained by the Irish Independent - indicate the bank deliberately hid the scale of the problem from the Government.

Speaking in Dublin, Taoiseach Enda Kenny said that he is constrained by what he can say given that there is a Garda investigation.

However he has promised an Oireachtas banking inquiry, and acknowledged the anger of people that the Government was fooled into giving money to Anglo.

"I have made the point in the Dáil on many occasions that in the department of the Taoiseach I don't have any paperwork to advice me as to the conversations that took place between members of the government and the banks on the run into that period," he said

"Believe you me I understand the rage and the anger of so many people who have been affected by all of this."
