Just 33 votes in it - but Donegal votes Yes; Boos greet Roscommon No

Ireland has voted for marriage equality - but it was a very tight win in at least one constituency.

The majority of results are now in and a national declaration is expected in the next hour that Ireland has made world history by becoming the first country to vote for equal marriage by popular vote.

Already more than half the country's constituencies have announced their results. Nearly everywhere in between the nation has voted Yes.

Sligo North Leitrim made history being the first constituency to officially declare its near 54% Yes vote.

So far the highest Yes vote was in Dublin South West where 71.27% of those who voted backed marriage equality.

Two counties have bucked the trend and voted No - Longford county has voted No, but the constituency of Longford Westmeath has voted Yes.

The constituency of Roscommon South Leitrim also voted No. The final vote there was No on 51.42%.

Donegal has broken with its tradition of going against the national trend and voted Yes in both constituencies there. In Donegal South West, the referendum was carried by just 33 votes.

The formal national declaration is due within the hour. Already, thousands of people have started the celebrations in and around Dublin Castle.
