Virgin 'planning Northern Rock rescue deal'

Richard Branson’s Virgin is planning to inject up to £1.5 billion into crisis-hit Northern Rock as part of a possible rescue deal for the bank, reports said today.

The Virgin-led consortium is understood to be poised to stump up the cash to help save the stricken bank in return for a controlling stake of at least 51%.
