Fans given extended look at Grand Theft Auto VI in 26-minute preview

Gaming fans have been given a fresh look at the long-awaited Grand Theft Auto VI with 26 minutes of new footage released by Rockstar Games.

The “extended look” debuted on Netflix on Thursday evening, six hours ahead of its release on YouTube early on Friday.

New footage featured sprawling cityscapes, gun battles and high-speed pursuits while offering a glimpse of the game’s new graphics and world-building.

Grand Theft Auto VI, the first all-new instalment in the open-world action game series since 2013, follows protagonists Jason and Lucia as a job finds them trapped in a criminal conspiracy in the fictional state of Leonida.

The preview showed the couple carrying out a drug pick-up before police raid the operation, forcing them to fight their way out.

In later footage, the pair become more deeply drawn into Vice City’s criminal underworld as they take on increasingly more dangerous jobs and encounter a host of fresh faces Pre-orders began on June 25 with the game available on Xbox and PlayStation consoles.

According to the website of the game’s producer, Rockstar Games, the game will see players return to Vice City, which has featured in previous editions of the series.

A blurb for the game on the website reads: “Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them.

“But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida — forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive.” 

The planned release date is November 19, having been delayed on a number of occasions.

A price for the game has not been announced.

The series began as a 2D game in 1997 and has seen a number of popular 3D follow-ups, including Grand Theft Auto III (2001), Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (2002) and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (2004).
