Vladimir Putin has declared a three-day ceasefire in Ukraine from May 8-10 as Russia celebrates the anniversary of its victory over Nazi Germany in the Second World War.

The announcement came as US president Donald Trump’s administration decides whether a deal to end the more than three-year war is within reach.
