Muslim pilgrims in Mecca have converged on a vast tent camp in the desert, officially opening the annual Hajj pilgrimage amid sweltering temperatures.

Ahead of their trip, pilgrims circled the cube-shaped Kaaba in the Grand Mosque, Islam’s holiest site.
