US senator faces bribery charges after gold bars and cash found hidden in home

US senator Bob Menendez and his wife have been indicted on bribery charges after an investigation that turned up 100,000 dollars (£81,000) in gold bars and 480,000 dollars (£390,000) in hidden cash at their home, prosecutors said.

Federal prosecutors announced the charges against the 69-year-old Democrat nearly six years after a criminal case against him ended with a deadlocked jury.
