Half a million new Covid-19 infections a day in UK, figures suggest

The number of new Covid-19 infections in the UK is likely to have climbed as high as half a million a day, analysis suggests.
Infections are estimated to have more than doubled in the space of two weeks, from 244,600 per day by February 23 to 520,200 by March 9, according to new modelling published by the UK Office for National Statistics (ONS).
