Journalists’ group calls for release of reporters in Myanmar

The Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) has called on Myanmar to release Associated Press journalist Thein Zaw and five other reporters detained while covering protests in the south-east Asian nation.

Saying it is “frustrated and fed up” with the arrests of reporters doing their jobs, America’s oldest journalism organisation also called on US law enforcement agencies to drop charges against any journalist detained in carrying out their work.
